This is my 500th blog! Wow!! I have been waiting to blog about something special. So, here we are…… I finished my dissertation! I just got back from the printer, and now it awaits submittal!!

My title : Postcolonial practices in Japanese education and their effect on zainichi Korean students.

Wow! 7 months of hard work, sitting in front of my desk for 8 or more hours….it was hard going but very interesting. Still feel like I have only just touched the surface.

I submit on 4th October, then sit back and wait for the results. One last exam on 26th October then I am finished….for a while anyway….

So, tonight I am taking my brother and his partner out for a celebration dinner…. Maybe I can have a few drinks…..

  1. 初めまして and congratulations on finishing!
Sorry for the sudden request, but is there any way I could get a copy?
My wife is zainichi and I have a degree in Japan Studies, so we’d love to read it!
Providing my e-mail via the comment post application.
    Mike

    • Dear Mike,
I would be delighted to email you a copy if you are interested. In fact it would be an honoured, thank you. But first, do you think you could tell me a little more about yourself? At Sydney University I had some of my work plagiarized by a Japanese student ( for some reason she is not there anymore….) so I am trying to be a little more wary and wise about the ways of the world.
I am also wondering how you found me?
As you probably can guess from my blog, I am also married to a zainichi (2nd generation), we have been married for 31 years and have 4 children, 2 daughters and 2 sons. We are based in Tottori (and run pachinko parlours) ,but in the last few years we ( more me) have been living all over the place.
I have an academic at a university in Tokyo who has read my thesis and is interested in having me as his PhD student, so that is my next big plan……
Hopefully, next time around I can write a thesis on the Chongryun teachers, in honour of a wonderful friend I have who has dedicated his life to ethnic education in the zainichi community.
I will send this message via email and the comment reply…because I am not too sure which is more reliable.
      Kindest regards,
      Susan Menadue-Chun
