In 1948 the Japanese Ministry of Education ordered that all ethnic Korean schools be closed. The conflict that followed culminated in the April 24th Hanshin Education Struggle. In protest to the forced closures of Korean schools in Kobe on April 23rd, 1948, thousands of protestors gathered and on April 24th to demand a meeting with the Hyōgo prefecture governor, unfortunately, a young Korean man was shot in the struggle.

He is buried in a grave for unnamed heroes in Tokyo. Before the 24th April anniversary, I wanted to visit and pay my respects….today I managed to find the time and to find the grave, it is hard to explain but my visit left me feeling with a sense of peace…..
