忙し過ぎた１２月 A December I would rather forget about…..

２０１０年は　そろそろ　終わりですね・・・・・
本当に　色々ありました。　大学院に　入り、一人で　海外留学をして、生まれて初めて　一人で　生活をしました。　体は確かに　老化して行きますが　若い人と同様に　勉強も　出来ることが　分かりました。自分と出会う　素晴らしい一年を　与えて貰いました。
しかし　日本の年末は大嫌いです。　忙しく過ぎます。そして　ダーリンンは　忘年会や　仕事で　追われ　体調を　非常心配していました。　お互いに　寝不足になり　しんどくて・・・・・
そして　２０１０年の最後の日に　大雪が降り　私が　胃腸炎になり　身動きが　出来なくなりました。やはり　ストレスの多い　１２月のつけが　回って来たかしら？？？
次女が　私の代わりに　美味しそうなお節を　作ってくれました。感謝！！
早く　２０１１年に・・・・・

The last day of 2010. It was a wonderful year for me, going back to school, living alone overseas, getting to know myself again. Thank you…… Ｉ　may be getting older but I can do whatever any young person can do, maybe even better?
I hate December in Japan, there is way toお much pressure on people to work and socialize. JM has once again been exceptionally busy with his work and end of year parties, it has left us both lacking sleep and I have worried if he could cope.
On the last day or 2010 we have been “rewarded” with snow and I have a stomach virus and I cannot get out of bed. Maybe the stress of December has just done it’s damage?
Daughter has kindly spent all day in the kitchen cooking New Year’s food for us.
I can’t wait until tomorrow for another fresh start.

大家族で食事会 A big family and an end of year party……

大家族主義で　経営を目指しています。　と言うことで　最後の　忘年会は　
本社スタッフと　配偶者と　我が家　６人で　鳥取の　ペペネロで　しました。
今年は　新婚夫婦が　２組参加しました。　嬉しいです。　美味しいお料理の　写真を　アップしました。　大変美味しかったですが　全部が　大皿で　出され　残念でした・・・・
年末て？　どうして　こんなに　忙しいでしょう？？？

We run our company on a “big family policy”, the other night we had a last end of year party with our administrative staff and their families, this year we had two newly married couples attend. Nice! We went to Pepenero, the best Italian food in Tottori. I have uploaded some pictures of the food we ate. The only drawback was we had to serve ourselves from the table…..
Why does the end of the year have tobe so busy in Japan????

オーソトラリア式のクリスマスを鳥取で・・・・An Australian style Christmas in Tottori

90％と予報されている雪は　そう降りませんでした。心配しましたけど　長女の　飛行機が無事到着しました。
夜は久しぶりに６人で　我が家で豪勢の　クリスマス食事会をしました。
七面鳥、サツマイモ、ジャガイモ、煮たたまねぎ、インゲン豆や私の　自慢のデミグラスソースと　クランベリージェリーでを食べた！デザートは伝統的な　クリスマスケーキと　祖母のシマモンンカスタードで仕上がった。ダーリンがついでくれたシャンパンも・・・・・・
１日も台所に立ったけど　皆も　満足の顔を見て嬉しかったです・・・・・・
。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。There was a 90% chance of snow yesterday in Tottori but we got lucky, it only snowed lightly and daughter’s plane arrived safely.
Last night I cooked up an Australian style Christmas at home with turkey, sweet potato, baked potato, caramelized onions, beans with cranberry jelly and my well made gravy. For desert we had traditional fruit pudding with my grandmother’s cinnamon custard. JM opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate all 6 of us home together…..
I did spend all day in the kitchen but seeing everyone’s happy faces made it worthwhile…..

鳥取？雪？やめて！Snow in Tottori? No thanks….

大雪の予報！！Oh no!!　クリスマスに　雪？？　ひとつも　嬉しくない！今日、長女　シンガポール経由で　帰って来るのに　羽田→鳥取のフライトが　欠航になれば　可愛そう・・・・・
６人で　食べる　七面鳥の　ディナーは　どうになる？？？
。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。Oh no! Heavy snow forecasted for Tottori! I don’t appreciate white a Christmas and I don’t want snow ! Daughter No 1 is due back from Sydney via Singapore and if it snows and her flight will be cancelled what will we do? What will happen to our turkey dinner?

クリスマスイブ Christmas Eve

クリスマスイブです・・・・・
我が家では静かに過ごしています。２５日は　本番ですから・・・・
今夜は　生クリームのケーキではなく　息子が　オーストラリアから　持って帰って来たドライフルーツタルト。　これを　食べると６世の　私でも　伝わって来た　祖先の国　イギリスの食文化を　考える・・・
イベント大好きな日本人は　クリスマスを　恋人の　イベントに変えてしまいました。　違いますよ。　家族を大切に思う　行事です・・・・・
クリスマスは　イエズ　キリストの生誕を　祝う日です。本来なら　結婚が決まっていないと　男女は　クリスマスは　クリスマスに　相手の家に　お誘いもありません・・・・・
それだけ　一年で一番　大事にされている日です・・・・・・・
メリー　クリスマス！！
追伸ー　鳥取は　雪です。私は　どうしても　嫌です。だって　私にとって　本当の　クリスマスは　夏です・・・・・・

Christmas Eve…..we are taking it easy at home as tomorrow is our big day.. But tonight we are going to forget our diets and have fruit tarts for desert.
The Japanese love events and somehow Christmas Eve has turned into a lover’s event like Valentine’s Day. Let’s not forget that Christmas is the birth of Christ and a special family event!! To think that you don’t even get an invite to your partner’s family’s house on Christmas Day if you have no plans of marriage!!
Anyway…….Merry Christmas!
P.S. It is snowing in Tottori. I don’t like a white Christmas…..Christmas should be hot!!

我が家で ささやかな 就職内定お祝い A family celebration at home…..

次女が　東京から帰って来ました。年末で仕事が　忙しい主人は　　仕事を空けて　家で　娘の　就職内定お祝いを　一緒にしました。我が家では　韓国、オーストラリアと日本の　習慣を　全部　取り入れています。今日の　お祝いは　韓国式で　赤飯、　ワカメの　お汁（韓国語では　ミオクと言います・・・・お祝い事は全部　ミオクでします）。　笹すしの　女将さんが　お祝いに　鯛を焼いて下さって、そして　娘の好きな　韓国置おかずを　作って上げました。　１００日と　１歳の誕生日以来　娘のために　赤飯、鯛と　ミオクを　しました。　嬉しそうでした。　これから　仕事　頑張ってね！！！

Hubby has a killer schedule at this time of year but he made time to come home for dinner. We have Korean, Australian and Japanese traditions in our home. Tonight we celebrated with Korean cuisine. Red rice, miok ( seaweed soup) and bream. I also cooked daughter’s favourite Korean dishes and my friend Mieko san from Sasa sushi cooked the bream. The last time I cooked food like for my little girl was for her 100 days and 1 year birthday. Think she appreciated it. Wow…time has flown…..good luck in your new job!

次男の帰宅と 山登り Son’s return and mountain climbing

次男も　帰って来た・・・母は嬉しい！！
早速　一緒に　山登りに行きました。空気も綺麗で　本当に気持ちが　良かったです。以前は　毎日に　ように　行ったのに　今回は　２年ぶりでした。理由は二つ→　①首を悪くしてから　上半身に力が入るのが辛いand
精神的な理由→　②　山は一人で　登るの好きでした。　好きな時間に出掛けて　自分の　ペースで登れるから・・・一人で　登山の方々が多いです。登るとよく　お知り合い（以前　取引があった会社の役員さん）と　お会いして　簡単に挨拶を　交わしていました。　彼も　何時も一人で来ていました。　そうする　と　ある会合で彼は　我社の　社員に　「奥様は何時も一人で　山登りをしているけど　夫婦仲は　どうなの？」と聞かれました。　我社の可愛い社員は　「仲がよいですよ」と　答えてくれましたけど　私は　ショックでした。　ほっておいて欲しいです・・・・　あの山は　一人では行きたくないようになりました。鳥取に居ると　何時も誰かに　監視をされて辛いです・・・・　
。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。My baby is home and his Mum is really happy. We have been on a hike up my favourite mountain. I haven’t been for 2 years. I used to climb every day but gave up for two reasons
1.With a arthritis in my neck I find it hard
2.I used to love climbing alone, you can go when you want, you can climb at your own pace and enjoy it alone. Most people who visit this beautiful area come alone too, on my I used to run into a banker we had dealings with and I always said “hello”. Then I heard that he questioned if we are happily married. He ran into one of our employees at a function. JUST BECAUSE I LIKE TO CLIMB ALONE? Mind you he was always alone! Our sweet employee put in a good word for me but ever since then it has a been a “dampener” and I don’t want to go on my own again.
Where ever I go in Tottori people are too interested in what I do…….

二人の忘年会と ミシェランを疑問に思うこと・・ Our own end of year party and questions regarding the legitimacy of Michelin.

昨夜　帰宅しました。　国内のに何故　あんな風に　疲れたかしら？？グタグタで　８時に　寝ました・・・・
今回の　東京で気が付いたら　ミシェランの星の付いた　レストランを　三軒　行きました。　３つ星の　恵比寿の　ジョエル・ロブションーつれて行って下さった友人に悪いけど　結構　普通でした。サービスが　もうひとつで　食事は　飛び切り　３星でもなかった。その友人は　アメリカの　有名な　作家兼グルメライターで　マネジャーを呼んで　苦情を言っていました・・・・　面白かった。
二件目は　麻布十番にある　「一期」－１星が付いている　素敵なおでんの　お店でした。
最後は　楽しい夫婦の　忘年会でした。　兼定で　お寿司。兼定は今回　ミシェラン入門をされました。現在は　１星です。しかし　大将に　聞くと　「勝手につけられて　良い迷惑です」と言っておられました。　仕事が忙しいのに　電話は　鳴りぱっなし・・・・１０人しか入れないのに　６人の　予約を入れて　当日　連絡無しで　ドタキャン・・・・・
静かに　常連のために　コツコツと　商売をしたいそうです・・・・・・
ミシェランの評価は　本当でしょうか？　ミシェランが　日本に　進入する前に　私は　ゲストとしてある　東京のお寿司に　つれて行って貰いました。　大将は　私達の前で　ずっと　奥さんを叱る、そして最後に　納豆巻を　頼んだから　納豆の正しい　食べ方の　説教をされました。　非常に不愉快でした。　説教なんて　要らないでしょう？　その寿司屋は　最初の　ミシェランで３星を貰って　大変な　騒ぎでした。　どうして？？？
二人で　少し飲みすぎたかしら？　美味しかった。結婚して　３０年　最近　思い出話が　増えました・・・・・・・・
帰りは　六本木ヒルズの　イルミネションを　楽しみながら　又　思い出話をしながら　・・・・・

I got home last night from Tokyo. How can a domestic trip be so tiring? Last night I went to sleep at 8pm and didn’t get up until 6 this morning!
This time in Tokyo I went to 3 Michelin restaurants. The first was Joel Robuchon in Ebisu ( 3 stars), it was great food but to be honest the service and the food didn’t match a 3 star Michelin restaurant. My friend is an famous American writer who also writes for the Conde Naste….she wasn’t impressed and called the waiter. I guess it was a lot of fun? Then a 1star Oden restaurant in Juban….very nice. On the last night JM and I had our own little “bonenkai” at our favourite sushi restaurant Kanesada (1 star) in Roppongi. Kanesada is a 1 star in the Michelin guide and the owner is not impressed. No, he doesn’t want to be 2 or 3 star he wants to be out of the book!! Until now he has coped quite nicely with his constant stream of faithful clients, now the phone rings constantly when he and his partner need to work and very often they have no shows……. Makes you wonder about Michelin? Before Michelin branched into Tokyo I was taken to an expensive sushi restaurant- while we ate the owner abused his wife and at the end I asked for a natto maki ( quite common in Kansai) instead of telling me he couldn’t do it for me I got a LECTURE on how to eat natto. He was so rude, if I had not been a guest I would have told him off, I was quite incensed to find that he got 3 stars in the first round of　Michelin restaurants in Tokyo, was rather hoping that he would go out of business!!
Think we probably drank too much on our night out together but we really enjoyed the walk home and the light up around Roppongi Hills……

銀座のＭｏｎｔ Ｒｉｖａｇｅの良さと 銀座のＬＶ店の馬鹿な店員 Great French food at the Mont Rivage in Ginza and the snotty employee at LV.

東京で　バタバタです・・・・・
民団の資料館の職員さんに　大変良いアドバイスを　頂いたり　お世話になりました・・・・・今度は　中古本屋巡りです・・・・・
昨日　修理のため　旅行かばんを　銀座のＬＶ店に　持って行きました。　相手の対応で　怒った・・・・何故かと　言うとかばんの　コマが　調子が悪くて　非常に大きい音をするから　わざわざ　鳥取から　持って行きました。ツンツンしている　店員が　三回
「問題があるかどうか　確かめてから　修理をするかしない　決めます」　３回も！！・・・・エエエ？？？まさか？　切れたスーちゃん「　ちょっと　待ってくださいよ！私は　問題があるから　わざわざ　この大きいカバン　を　持って来ました。不愉快です」　と　言いながら　彼女は　どこかに　消えて行きました。その後は　問題が判明をして　修理の手続きに入りました。　たかが　ＬＶで　働いていて　何　気取っているの？？？？
その後は　素敵な　奥様と　銀座で　フランス料理を　食べました。ぐるナビで　探していて　本当に　美味しかったです。

Yesterday I took my travel bag into LV to have it fixed. The wheels are driving me crazy, they are so noisy. The snotty employee didn’t believe there was anything wrong and after she said THREE TIMES “ we will assess if there is a problem and if it needs to fixed….” I got mad. “Why do you think I would drag this embarrassingly noisy bag all the way from Tottori if there was nothing wrong with it? There is a problem and that is why I bought it here, your comments are extremely offensive!” She ran away. The next person to serve me assessed there was a problem and it has been sent off to the workshop for repairs. What gives these people the right to talk to customers like that???
Later I went for lunch with an elderly friend at Mont Rivage. A little French restaurant I found on Gnavi website. Very nice……

盛和塾の　東京塾長例会に出席や　論文のため　資料探し　数日　東京に居る　予定です・・・・勿論　連日のように　時間を見つけて　友人たちに　会っています・・・・・
雲の上の大企業に　就職が内定した　娘の機嫌の良いこと（有難い）・・・・都ホテルの　素敵なラウンジで　乾杯・・・・・
そこでで　娘の素敵な携帯を見て　少し情けなくなりました。　結婚式で　失神した
　Ｉ君は　最近　私に　わが社で　余った　お子様用の　機種を進めてくれました。　確かに字が　大きく使いやすいけど海外で　使えなくて　我が家の　子供たちがが　皆
　Ｉフォンを　使っていると思うと　少し悲しくなりました。　会社では　もっと　格好良いのが　置いているか　帰ってから　聞きに行こう・・・・・

I am in Tokyo for the final 2010 Seiwa Juku meeting of the year, to hunt around for some books for my thesis and meet up with friends when I have some time.
My clever daughter who has been offered a job in Bloomberg is in a fantastic mood ( phew) we had a drink at the Miyako Hotel to celebrate. Then I saw her snazzy little phone. All of my children are now using I phones and I am using a “child’s” phone. Romeo ( the one who passed out at his wedding) suggested I use a child’s phone we had lying around in our office f as it is easy to use…….well it is but you can’t use it
overseas and after seeing my kid’s snazzy I phones I think I want to have a adult’s phone at the very least……..
