郷に入れば郷に従い・・・・・・私は日本に住みながら出来る限り努力しています・・・・
では郷（日本）に入る日本人はどうして郷に従あわない？？？
私が話しをしたいことは 日本人が外国人に対する名の呼び方と 呼び捨てのこと・・・
日本人は基本的に名字＋さんつけで 人を呼びます。欧米でも これも 当然の礼儀。相手から 「ファーストネーム（first name）で 呼んでください」と言われ、はじめに ファーストネームでお付き合が始まります。 では、ファーストネームで お付き合いをしても どうして日本人は 勝手に外国人を 呼び捨てに出来ますか。失礼て あったものじゃない！！！！これを書きながら 苛立ちを感じます。５０歳過ぎた私は 相手に「さんつけ」でお呼びしても・・・・一緒に居る お子さんにまで「ちゃんつけ」でおよびしても 私は かみついたように 「スーザン」と言われ 不愉快で 不愉快で…….
その場で あまりに 馬鹿にされたことを感じ、お付き合いをしたくない（と言うか二度とも会いたくない）と 思うようになります。 私は ５０歳過
ぎた女性です。プライドも、学歴、も経歴もあります。 犬のように 私の名前を 呼び捨てにしないで・・・私が許せば ファーストネームで さんつけで お願いします。そうじゃなければ 私が誇りに している 名字で私を 呼んでください・・・・人権にかかわる重大な問題です・・・・
忠告：私を 呼び捨てにする人が大嫌いです・・・私を呼び捨てにするなら あなたとお付き合いをしたくありません・・・・

When in Rome do as the Romans do. As a long time resident of Japan I do try my best. I live by Japanese standards, especially when it comes to respect for others.
So? How come? The Japanese who live here forget to do what the Japanese should do?? There is one rule for Japanese and one rule for others (foreigners). The most un-dignifying and insulting thing the Japanese do when it comes to foreigners is the misuse of foreigner’s names.
Japanese use surnames and honorifics like *san* or *chan* for children. Even in a more relaxed West the use of a surnames is the correct and official way to do things in society. Where I was brought up you would always tell someone (particularly if they are younger) to call you by your first name before you take the liberty to do so…………..
In Japan the rules are changed for foreigners and it is just assumed that Japanese can use first names for foreigners and stick to their own rules for themselves………….on top of that, many also have the audacity to omit the honorifics and use a first name only…………..a situation in Japan that is paramount to the ultimate insult but somehow it seems to be permitted if foreigners are treated in such a rude way…………..
I have been in situations where I will address a person correctly and even go as far as using an honorific with the child and I, in return have been addressed as *Susan* only…..no big deal overseas but in Japan where I LIVE it is terrible insult.
So YOU out there who thinks you can treat me like that…………………….. I don’t have any intention of trying to have a relationship with you………forget it!! When in Romans do as the Romans do……………..If I can do so can you!!!!! Dammm it………
