美味しい焼肉と 素敵な出会い Yummy Korean BBQ and the beginning for a new friendship.

昨日、焼肉を食べにスカイツリーまで　行って来ました。以前から　フェースブックを通して　知り会ったご夫婦に会いたい　と思い、息子も肉も食べたいと　言うので、嬉しい口実が出来ました。焼肉ぱんが向島スカイツリー店で　想像したとおりの　気さくな　素敵なお二人でした。　素晴らしい　お子さんも　3人いらして、娘さんと　楽しいお話も出来ました。そのうえ　お料理も　とっても　美味しくて　私も　息子に　良い顔が　出来ました。最後に、非常に　財布に優しい　お値段で　更に　びっくり！！　又、行かせて頂きますね。　宜しく　お願い致します！！！

Today I took my son out for dinner, he said he wanted Korean BBQ, so that gave me the perfect “excuse” to go and meet Bokmi Kang and her husband Young Kim, two lovely people I met through FB. They had no idea we were coming so I think we gave them a little surprise? They have 3 lovely children, we also had an entertaining chat their 8 year old daughter. AND I had better not forget to mention…their food was fantastic! We are going back for sure!!

こんな良い事 続いて良いかしら？How lucky am I?

今日、帰宅したら　私宛に　我が社の　ある店舗の社員から　お誕生日　プレゼントが　届いていました。びっくりしました。　開けてみたら大好物の　日本酒！そのうえ、美人酒に　私の名前―「寿沙杏」！！もう一本は「お誕生日おめでとう」！！とっても　しゃれていて　皆さんの　優しさが　身に染みました。

 

日本政府が　何時か　二重国籍を　認めたら　日本国籍を取得したいと　思います。その時、私の名前は　「寿沙杏」ですね！！！

 

但し、悩みが一つあります！何時飲むかのことです！！！

 

皆さんの　お陰で　今年は　良い一年になると　思います。

I came home a tad exhausted to find a package addressed to ME!! It was a birthday gift from employees of one of our shops. On opening the package I find it is Japanese sake! Yummmmm. The Chinese characters on the label have also been fashioned so they read “Susan”…..now, how lucky am I a to be surrounded by such wonderful people?
If Japan ever changes its laws and allows dual citizenship, I will use these Chinese characters-「寿沙杏」

 

Now, this wonderful gift is causing a dilemma!! When to drink?? But really? How lucky am I???

私は一番好きなお料理は　レシピから作ったものではなくて、あるもので工夫して作るもの・・・今日は　押し寿司でした・・・夫も　大喜びでした。残りは　（幸せ？）な社員の　夜食です・・・・

I very rarely use recipes, in fact, my favourite type of cooking is creating dishes out of ingredients we have. Today I made “pressed” sushi, and one lucky employee gets to the leftovers for supper!!

 

草の根和解への道ー我が家の日韓親善おせち。 A foodie’s way grassroots road to reconciliation- Japan/Korean Friendship fusion New Year Cuisine!

1月2日になりました！！

日本海/ 東海では　大雪が予想されているのに　未だ降りません・・・とりあえず　良かった！！

昨日は　我が家の恒例お節を　作りました。今年から 我が家の多文化性家族を尊重して

名前を付けた・・・

「日韓親善おせち」。各国の美味しいお料理を隣に並べて、一緒に食べても　何の違和感がないです・・・　本当は　お美味しいですよ！！！

やはり人間の味覚は嘘つかない・・・都合の良いように　国境を高くし　国民を誤魔化すのは　政治家・・・・しかし、食卓に例えると　仲良く出来る・・・増して、この日韓お節は　オーストラリア人が作ったと　考えれば何でも　可能ではないでしょうか。

お弁当に詰めたは　お正月の　間　お仕事をされている　幹部独身社員の為に準備しました。　届けたら「嬉しいです。実を言うと期待していました」と言われ、私も　嬉しいです。　素晴らしい盛り付けは　次女がやってくれました。

今年は　このように　味覚を通して、政治家抜きで　例えば　食の　根の草運動で　日韓総合の歴史理解で　和解の年になって欲しいと思います。

It is 2^nd January, 2013 already. We are expecting heavy snow along the Sea of Japan/East Sea, but to date, we are fine…. Here is hoping it doesn’t snow, but I have a feeling my next blog may be full of pictures of heavy snow.

Yesterday I made my Japanese New Year “osechi” food, as I try to include some of our favourite Korean dishes in honour of our multicultural family, this year I have given our New Year food a name…. “Japan/Korean friendship, fusion New Year cuisine”. Strange, how one’s palate can accept the two cuisines with out a qualm but the two countries have so many disagreements? Leaving these matters to politicians only makes things worse as they seek to make gains on territorial disputes to enhance their own political status.

Think about it…….if an Australian can make Japanese and Korean New Year cuisine isn’t anything possible??

The extra lunch boxes were packed beautifully by my daughter and delivered to our single employees working over the holidays. They told me that they were secretely hoping I might drop something off….that was nice.

I hope that 2013 can be a year when grass roots foodie movement can find its ways to reconciliation away and ignore the evil caused by politicians. Will leave it up to you foodies!!

私の同胞の為に 準備したクリスマスの小包み A Christmas care package for an Ozzie friend.

今日、このブログのファンに　会いました。何時も　読んで頂いて　感謝しています。　コーヒを飲みながら「ブログの内容が最近　難しかった」と指摘されました。ご免なさい！！　確かに　ブログ立ち上げた当初と比べると　内容は　変わったと　思います。しかし、その変化の背景に　学者を目指す私の志しもあるかも　分かりません？　私の進化でしょうか。

ちょうど　昔を　思い出されるような　テーマがあります。

京都に住む同胞　(大親友のオーストラリア人)に　送る　クリスマスの　手作り　プレゼントを準備しました。　フルーツケーキ、　ショットブレード、そして　干し柿で作った　お菓子・・・・

確かに　この時期になると　故郷の味と習慣が　懐かしいです・・・教会の　讃美歌が　聞こえてきます・・・・・
。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。

Today I ran into one my blog fans…. Your time you take to read is very appreciated…. Over coffee he said “ the style of your blog has changed, I find some of your entries difficult to understand” ( I think he was trying to say that he thought I am a little too left in my political persuasion…..) I guess the style has changed, but my political persuasion has not changed, however  my research has probably contributed to what I call my “academic maturity”.

Anyway….here is something down to earth-
I prepared a Christmas homemade care package to be send to a fellow country woman in Kyoto－one of my dearest friends.
Christmas- a time to be nostalgic, particularly when it comes to food!! Also our Ozzie traditions….i can hear the Christmas carols as I type…..

 

 

何時でも 行きたい ソウル Seoul, I will go back anytime….

寒い、寒い　ソウルに行って来ました。防寒着は助かったけど　さすが　マイナス１５℃は　辛いですね。日本に帰って来てから　肌が乾燥しすぎて　かゆくて、かゆくて　辛かった。

まず、韓国の入国の時点で　私は　配偶者として　夫と一緒に　韓国国籍のレーンを　通りました。当然と　思いながら　日本入国の時点で　私たち夫婦は　バラバラにされる。

韓国に留学している長男は　元気そうで、韓国語も　非常に上手になりました。彼は　延世大学の語学堂の５級を　終了しました。６級まであり、４級を終了したら　韓国の大学に　入学できるらしい・・・・　凄い！！昨日も　連絡があり、韓国の　ＴＯＰＩＫの　４級を受かったと　のこと・・・これからの　就活にも　多いに役に立つと　思う。頑張る彼を　尊敬します。

友人に会い、懐かしい顔も見て、買い物をして、美味しいものを　たくさん食べて　充実した　３日間でした。

何時でも　行きたい　ソウル・・・・・

I have just returned from Seoul. Yes, even with thermals minus 15 is a tad cold!!

On arrival in Seoul I went through the Korean nationality lane with my husband, in Japan, my husband and I are not allowed to do so and we are separated at the border…….

Our son is studying in Korea and he was really well. He has just finished Level 5 at Yonsei KLI and I am really impressed. You can enter a Korean university on completion of only Level 4!! He has also passed the TOPIK language proficiency Level 4………..clever kid! I am sure this will really help with future job applications.

Just loved meeting up with old friends, familiar faces, loved the shopping and the food.

I’ll go back to Seoul anytime.

今日から おせちの 準備 New Year “osechi” preparations.

今回のおせちは　冷凍し、東京に送って上げることになったので　今日から準備・・・・

一番目に作るのは　ブランデー、メープルシロップとバター入れの栗きんとん、早速

冷凍庫へ・・・
最近、我が家で　大ブームとなった色々な麹で・・・ファクトリーみたい・・・麹、麹　and 麹。これも　東京に　送って上げます・・・

Preparations for New Year food began today. This year, it looks like no one will be coming home, so I have promised I will send them some food. So, from today, I will prepare a dish a day and freeze it. The first dish is “kurikinton” -chestnuts in sweet potato with maple syrup, brandy and butter then into the freezer….

Also we are keen on Japanese probiotics… “shio koji.” I expect I will be using a lot in New Year cooking, and as it takes 2 weeks to ferment I started again today. It is beginning to look like a factory!!

９０人のご接待 Our big day…90 guests……

一週間前に　弊社の　恒例の松茸兼蟹パーティを　自宅で　開催しました。今度は何と　９０人！！キャ！最初、人数を聞いて　気絶しそうになった！！しかし、やるしかない・・・前進！！

当日、雨を心配しましたけど　何と　暴風に雨！！OH NO!!!

災厄な状態で　スタート！！　テーブル張るテーブルクロース変わりの　紙を３回張り替えた・・・張っては風邪に飛ばされて・・・又張り・・・

お客さんがいらして、みんなさんにレインコートを差し上げ、皆さんが気持ちよく　納得して下さいました。

恒例の私の手料理を出し、解禁した蟹と松茸・・・パーティ後で　写真の整理をしますと　皆さんの笑顔がとっても　印象的で　何よりも　嬉しいです。

台所と　接待をお手伝いして下さった、笹すしの大将、若女将、女将さん、お手伝いして下さった　業者さん、そして　本社スタッフの皆さん、本当に　ありがとうございます。

もちろん、遠方からも近くから　もいらして下さった　皆さんに　心から感謝です・・・・

なんだか　忙しい人生・・・主張＋会社の行事＋自分の研究・・・・

。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。

A week ago we held a company party at home and 90 people came……when I first heard how many people were coming I almost passed out with horror. But want can you do, but try your best??

On the day of the party we were worried it might rain, so we erected tents……..BUT, not only did it NOT rain, along with the rain the wind almost blew us over! We had to recover the tables 3 times because the wind kept blowing the covers away. Then our guests came and we handed them raincoats…there was no way I was letting them inside our house! But everyone happily complied and the party got off to a good start. We served, crab, pine mushrooms and my home cooking.

The best thing about the day was everyone’s happy smiles, it made our hard work so rewarding.

Thank you to all of our good friends, and colleagues who helped out on the day and to the many people who traveled from far and near to make the day such a success!!

What a busy life, entertaining, business trips and on top of that my own research………

慶応大学の隣 の津国屋 は最高・・・The best Izakaya I have ever visited..

慶応大学の隣にある　[津国屋]と言う　昔風の　居酒屋に　若い二人と　一緒に行って来ました。今まで　行った居酒屋のなかで　最高でした。お店のなかのインテリアの良くて、サービスも親切で、味も最高・・・それに　安かった！！３人で　飲んで食べて・・・お腹がパンパンとなり　９３４０円！！びっくり！！

。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。

Went to this very quaint Izakaya next to Keio University, with two young guests and

it is definitely the best Izakaya experience I have ever had! The interior is old world Japanese, the service is friendly, and the food very tasty and it was cheap! After lots of food and alcohol it only added up to 9340 yen for 3 people. We will definitely be going back…Oh yes, the name of the Izakaya is Tsukokuya.
